We are an all-inclusive, friendly department committed to our students and their professional development. Our students work with researchers who are dedicated to applications in medical imaging, cybersecurity, collegiate mathematics education, national and global defense, geosciences, biological processes, and data science, as well as foundational research in algebraic geometry, combinatorics, computational science, mathematical physics, number theory, and topology.
Our department strives to create an environment which embraces access and success as core values. All members of the department, including faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students, are expected to foster a community in which all feel welcomed, valued, and heard. An environment of mutual respect is crucial to the teaching, learning, and research of mathematics, and the work needed to build this environment never stops.

Math Students Curate Art Exhibit in CO/LAB Space at Gregory Allicar Museum of Art
“When many of us hear the word ‘mathematics,’ we think of numbers, formulas, or equations. But in this exhibition, we ask you to consider something broader. Mathematics is also a way of seeing,” Kristina Moen, PhD Student in Mathematics at CSU, introduces the collection, “Symmetry, Structure, Space: Mathematical Visions in Art,” in the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art.

Distinguished Professor Ingrid Daubechies to Speak at CSU Arne Magnus Lecture Series April 17-18
The Arne Magnus Lecture Series invites the public to lecture series by Ingrid Daubechies, James B. Duke Distinguished Professor Emerita of Mathematics. Daubechies is known for her discovery of the Daubechies Wavelet, has been nicknamed The Godmother of the Digital Image and among many lifelong achievements is the recipient of the 2025 National Medal of Science.
The Arne Magnus Lectures are delivered annually by the CSU Department of Mathematics in honor of Arne Magnus, our colleague and friend for 25 years.
