About Math Day
Since 1977, the Department of Mathematics has hosted Math Day, which is a full day of exploration in Mathematics for High School students. This event brings in around 500 math-enthusiastic students from Colorado and surrounding states.
Purpose of Math Day
As the Department of Mathematics at CSU, we hope to share our educational resources to:
- Broaden students’ interest, excitement and opportunities within mathematics
- Build community among educators and students
Main Events
Math Day offers something to connect every student with mathematics:
- Guest Lecture: 9 am, Trevor Hyde, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Vassar College
- Team Competition: A quiz-bowl style tournament for both small and large schools: All day/times vary
- Breakout Sessions: Faculty and grad student-led elective workshops: 1 pm – 2:30 pm
- Student Project Math Fair (all day) is an open house-style fair with math-themed puzzles, games, art and a gallery of student-submitted projects to be judged by our mathematics instructors within these five categories:

- Expository: History, Biography & Theory of Mathematics
- Artistic and Recreational Mathematics
- Data Visualization or Mathematics
- Original Mathematical Research
- Mathematics in Education/Teaching
Registration
Web registration is per school and will open September 1st – October 22nd. We ask that at least one educator commit to be a point of contact to help organize teams and student projects and attend Math Day with their students.
Cost
Registration costs are $25.00 per student (no cost for teachers/sponsors).
