Application Deadlines
We admit for fall semester only. The deadlines for a complete application are:
February 1: To be considered for admission + financial support:
April 1: To be considered for admission only
A complete application includes all supporting documents described below. All components of the application are considered by the Graduate Committee in order to competitively award Graduate Teaching Assistantships. If any supporting document arrives late, this may reduce an applicant’s chances for receiving such an award.
Requirements for U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Applicants
Application Fee: There is a $60 non-refundable application fee.
Statement of Purpose: This is your opportunity to tell our graduate admissions committee who you are holistically, what your academic and professional interests are, and how you will add value to the graduate program and the respective discipline. How does your lived experience inform your skillset as related to our program?
Resume or CV: All applicants must submit a resume or CV as one of the checklist items in the SLATE application.
GRE test scores: GRE test scores are no longer required as part of a complete application for the MS or PhD programs in mathematics. You may still submit GRE general or GRE math subject test scores if you so choose. To submit GRE scores contact ETS and request that your scores be sent to Colorado State University using the institution code of 4075. GRE scores generally take 3 – 4 weeks to be uploaded to your application; therefore, please order your scores as early as possible.
Letters of Recommendation: The mathematics department requires two letters of recommendation. However, the graduate school requires that you provide the contact information for a minimum of three (3) recommenders. The first two submitted will meet the mathematics department requirement.
Mathematics does not require a specific format for letters of recommendation. Your recommenders will be notified and prompted to supply a recommendation letter through the system. Academic references should be prepared to discuss your academic knowledge and skills, aptitude for graduate study, ability for independent research, and classroom performance related to characteristics such as integrity, leadership, problem solving, and teamwork. Choosing an individual as a reference who has an impressive title but cannot discuss the aforementioned qualities will not result in an informative letter of recommendation that supports your admission.
Transcripts: Official transcripts are not required for the review of your application. You may be admitted and registered in your first semester of courses with an unofficial transcript.
You will need unofficial transcripts of all collegiate work completed post-high school. Separate transcripts are required for study abroad if the courses, grades, and credits are not recorded on the transcript of the university that sponsored the study abroad.
Training course transcripts from branches of the U.S. Military that show credit received with neither grades nor degrees awarded are exempt from the transcript requirements.
You must upload the front and back of transcripts and include any grading scale provided. Follow instructions and requirements in the Guide to Submitting Your Transcripts section published on this webpage.
If admitted, official transcripts must be sent directly to CSU from the institution(s) you attended prior to or during your first semester. You will not be able to register for your second semester of graduate work until your official transcripts are submitted and failing to submit official transcripts may result in your dismissal from Graduate School.
